Studio Experience
I have experience working in analog and digital studio environments. Logic Pro is my primary DAW, but I have lengthy experience using Ableton Live and Pro Tools as well.
During my time attending NYU (2016-2018), I worked as a Production Assistant at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music where I gained hands-on experience operating analog consoles (Neve and API) along with industry-standard microphones, instruments, outboard gear, etc. In this job, I was able to learn a great deal from the staff of veteran producers at the school (Bob Power, Jim Anderson, Kevin Killen, etc). This job gave me a deep understanding of the signal flow in a professional studio, and further, it developed my ability to set up and troubleshoot sessions in a time-sensitive environment. Another perk of this job was being able to book “overnight sessions” between the hours of 1am -8am, which I did frequently to work on my own music and gain experience in the studios.
The highlight of my engineering experience thus far has been working as an Assistant Engineer for Grammy-Award winning producer Joe Chiccarelli (The Strokes, Beck, White Stripes, U2) while Charly Bliss was in the final week of recording their sophomore album “Young Enough”. Witnessing Joe work in the studio for that week was a master class in studio efficiency and workflow.
After graduating from NYU in 2018, I moved back home to Delaware, where I set up my own home studio and started a band with my friends, Comet Lovejoy. I do all of the recording, engineering, and producing for our band. Despite the experience I’ve had in fancy studios with big producers, nothing has taught me more than building a home studio and experimenting to create our band’s music. Live Audio
While living in New York City, I also worked numerous live audio gigs for Daniel Neumann including Ambient Church, Time:Spans, and a night of the Fridman Gallery 5th Anniversary Festival.
For the Blank Forms concert series featuring Loren Connors and Charalambides, I did my first solo gig where I set up all of the audio equipment and ran sound for the show completely on my own.
I also helped set up and ran the live audio for Viv Corringham’s performance on Paul Geluso’s 3D Sound Object.
My big takeaways from working live audio gigs is that:
1) Something will always go wrong (be prepared).
2) Bring extra duct tape.
In regards to live audio, I have also set up for many concerts, special events, and recording sessions as an employee for the University of Richmond Music Lab (2015-2016) and for NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music (2016-2018).
